Wizard October 2008 highlights

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Wizard Magazine Issue#204 October 2008Now that my new November 2008 Wizard has arrived, it’s time to replace out my October 2008 Wizard. But before I let it go, I thought I’d quickly skim through it one last time and make some notes:

  1. Trolling Online – page 6
    1. comment from LORDD3R3K “I highly recommend going back and rereading Morrison’s run [on Batman] from the begining. Seriously dude, done in one sitting, the series has an amazing flow.
    2. “Man, what a great end for the first arc. Booster Gold is the bomb. It’s sad to see Geoff [Johns] and Jeff [Katz] leave, but the next arc seems fantastic.” – AJORTON
  2. “Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader?” by Neil Gaiman coming in January
  3. Kevin Smith’s 3-part Batman: Cacophony coming in November
  4. Geoff Johns and Ethan van Sciver’s Flash: Rebirth
  5. Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk finally received the final script from co-creator Damon Lindelof, putting an end to the series that started in December 2005.
  6. The Pull List – pg. 16 – Ghostbusters Manga Vol.1 (Tokyopop) – “A host of short stories starring your favorite Ghostbusters as they get slimed in true manga fashion.”
  7. Trade Show (pg. 86)
    1. Superman: Krytonite – Darwyn Cooke and Time Sale (Sept 10) – $24.99(though it should be worth noting there is one review so far on Amazon for this, and it’s an average rating.)
    2. Batman: The Black Glove – Grant Morrison – Sept 3
  8. Batman: Broken City – Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso.
  9. Cleburne seems a bit intriguing. “The riveting and controversial Graphic Novel based on a true story” comes out in November 2008. It’s by Murphy, Milgrom, and Brown. And it revolves around Confederate General Patrick Cleburne who wants to free the slaves so they can fight. More on rampartpress.com

Read comics for the iPhone/iPod Touch – and submit your own (if you’re ready)

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I came across this article on viewing digital comics on an iPhone or iPod touch today over on comicbookresources.com.

The application is by iVerse Media and they are looking to have comics start for $.99. In addition to getting comic adaptions and new comics from professionals, they are also accepting submissions from new creators. The info on this can be found over here on iVerse Comics’s Submissions Page. They need more than just an idea and/or script (damnit) – they want some sample artwork, etc.

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone who wants to get a comic off the ground and has the means to at least get started.

Our Justice League Season 1 on Blu-Ray should be arriving this coming Tuesday, August 19th – when is yours coming?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I’ve been excited about Justice League Season 1 coming on Blu-ray for while now, ever since I accidentally stumbled across this post over on Blu-ray.com. I placed my pre-order via Slickdeals a few months back for the final price of $33ish. It’s finally almost here.

In anticipation, I thought I’d revisit that Blu-ray.com post and point out some of the comments that caught my eye. I can’t link to them specifically, but one, I wanted to point out Michael.Schinke’s believe that this season was the one that wasnt done in widescreeen. Quickly after, mongojr corrects him saying they did two versions – one full and one cropped to widescreen. I agree with JustinCredible_13’s enthusiasm for Justice Leaugue Unlimited, but will have to wait until I watch the regular Justice Leaugue to see what’s better (I’ve seen all the Justice Leaugue Unlimited episodes and they are great. And lastly, Lucy Diamond made me aware of the Star-crossed series from Season 2. I’ll have to look out for that once thats out on Blu.

New Batman: Arkham Asylum Game coming & insightful Joystiq comments

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

There’s a new Batman: Akham Asylum game coming according to Joystiq. What I found more interesting was in the discussion in the comments:

Update: 8/15/2008:

I saw a new post on the Batman Arkham Asylum game today on Joystiq and it had screens but those had to be pulled. I don’t see links to these removed screens in the comments section (as Joystiq’s hinting in their post), but I’m sure they’ll turn up.

Again, the comments are insightful on the subject of Batman, in particular, Vii’s comments on Killer Croc.

Wash Post: Nice Joker Article & Online discussion with Paul Levitz of DC Comics

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I thought both of these were worth mentioning:

  1. Sunday, July 13th, 2008’s Washington Post had a nice article on the Joker by Hank Stuever which can be viewed online here:

    The Joker’s Onto Us

What Does It All Mean When Batman’s Enemy Is More Interesting Than the Dark Knight Himself?

The Joker, Through the Years

A look at the many faces of Batman’s nemesis, on film, on television and in the comics.

2) Also, there’s a nice online discussion with Paul Levitz, the publisher & president of DC comics here.

Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes gets A- in Washington Post

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Screenshot of the Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes review done by the Washington Post's Sunday Source

The July 27, 2008 Washington Post had a review on Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. It was reviewed by Evan Narcisse and got an A-.

In case you can’t read the screenshot I pasted of the review, Here’s a link to the Washington Post page featuring the review. I couldn’t search for it for the life of me on their site so I had to browse through the Sunday Source print edition to find it. Remind me to e-mail the web editor (Amanda McGrath and complain about that).

A Season 2 Review of Smallville on dvdfile.com that’s pretty accurate

Monday, August 4th, 2008

I came across this review on dvdfile.com of Smallville Season 2 on DVD today while looking for Smallville threads discussing Miles Millar & Alfred Gough so I could try and figure out why the new Mummy Dragon Emperor was so poorly written. Anyways, this review’s pretty dead on.

New Season of Smallville will have an episode written from Geoff Johns

Monday, August 4th, 2008

I’m just sort of getting into the comic scene, but had the pleasure of recently reading Green Lantern: No Fear and admiring Geoff Johns work. Season 7 will feature Geoff Johns’ Legion of Super-Heroes in an episode written by him.

Here’s one link to this on The Comic Forums, here’s another on geeksofdoom.com with a comment by me.
