Read comics for the iPhone/iPod Touch – and submit your own (if you’re ready)

August 25th, 2008

I came across this article on viewing digital comics on an iPhone or iPod touch today over on comicbookresources.com.

The application is by iVerse Media and they are looking to have comics start for $.99. In addition to getting comic adaptions and new comics from professionals, they are also accepting submissions from new creators. The info on this can be found over here on iVerse Comics’s Submissions Page. They need more than just an idea and/or script (damnit) – they want some sample artwork, etc.

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone who wants to get a comic off the ground and has the means to at least get started.

Our Justice League Season 1 on Blu-Ray should be arriving this coming Tuesday, August 19th – when is yours coming?

August 15th, 2008

I’ve been excited about Justice League Season 1 coming on Blu-ray for while now, ever since I accidentally stumbled across this post over on Blu-ray.com. I placed my pre-order via Slickdeals a few months back for the final price of $33ish. It’s finally almost here.

In anticipation, I thought I’d revisit that Blu-ray.com post and point out some of the comments that caught my eye. I can’t link to them specifically, but one, I wanted to point out Michael.Schinke’s believe that this season was the one that wasnt done in widescreeen. Quickly after, mongojr corrects him saying they did two versions – one full and one cropped to widescreen. I agree with JustinCredible_13’s enthusiasm for Justice Leaugue Unlimited, but will have to wait until I watch the regular Justice Leaugue to see what’s better (I’ve seen all the Justice Leaugue Unlimited episodes and they are great. And lastly, Lucy Diamond made me aware of the Star-crossed series from Season 2. I’ll have to look out for that once thats out on Blu.

New Batman: Arkham Asylum Game coming & insightful Joystiq comments

August 13th, 2008

There’s a new Batman: Akham Asylum game coming according to Joystiq. What I found more interesting was in the discussion in the comments:

Update: 8/15/2008:

I saw a new post on the Batman Arkham Asylum game today on Joystiq and it had screens but those had to be pulled. I don’t see links to these removed screens in the comments section (as Joystiq’s hinting in their post), but I’m sure they’ll turn up.

Again, the comments are insightful on the subject of Batman, in particular, Vii’s comments on Killer Croc.

The Microsoft Surface post on Engadget and the funny comments within

August 13th, 2008

There was a nice post on Engadget last night on Microsoft’s new Surface (their interactive table).

Here are the comments from within that made me laugh:

And thatrotierkid’s response to SuperSexyErik(^_^)
WixosTrix’s comment at Alber1690.
bureX’s comment at Alex.

This comment from barrington talks about a parody video to the first commercial.

For what it’s worth, I want this one day in wall form on every single wall in my house. The First room: my workout room where we can bring up all my clippings that I’ve taken out of Men’s Health over the past few years.

Ali’s subconscious dark and depressing doodling

August 12th, 2008

One day, I was on the phone with T-mobile trying to help set up a family plan for Ali and while I was doing this,  he was just doodling on the bill we were taking notes on. Above is what he drew.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the Worst movie of the year

August 11th, 2008

Now I’m not sure if this latest Mummy counts as Mummy 3 or if Scorpion King counts as Mummy 3, so we’ll stick to calling this movie by its title: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. And it’s important I clarify this title so that I can make the following statement with the necessary boldness:

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the worst movie of 2008.

It is terrible. It was so bad, Raza, my cousin who was with me, fell asleep halfway through. It was so bad that the person behind me laid out over 4 seats and was snoring shortly after the movie started too. It was so bad, I wanted to leave but had too many people with me so I couldn’t. It was so bad I just started twittering about how bad it was (see my exhibits a, b, c).

I’m not going to even bother reviewing this. To talk about what they did wrong in this movie would take too long and to talk about what they did right would require me to think too hard. I myself had a feeling the movie was done for right after the opening
prologue. The opening fly fishing scene with Brendan Frasier was so
unfunny and painful to watch that I knew the movie couldn’t come back
from this.

The prologue actually was the only decent part of this movie. As a matter of fact, in the review from Jane Horowitz’s review in the Washington Post, her closing quote was: “Whatever. The prologue was the best part.”

So I know I’m not the only one.

There’s nothing more to say about the movie. For more good times, check out the comments on Blu-ray.com’s recent blog post on Rob Cohen saying this movie on BD will look and sound better than in the theater.

Furniture I want

August 10th, 2008

I saw these Ally Trolleys on the inside cover of the July 6, 2008 Washington Post magazine. Here’s an image of them from the details page:

Ally Trolleys at the Container Store
I didn’t know anything about them because the Container Store just said, “sleek storage in motion” on the ad. I shot an email to the Container Store and they replied with the link on their page.

They would look good in our home office and would be handy for me to roll into my room next door when I need them. The downside is that they are $249 for the one w/ the drawers and $199 for the one without the drawers. A little too pricey for me right now.

Pouff Faux-Leather Floor Cushion Collection $24.99

I saw these in last week (Aug 3-9)’s weekly Target ad. Not sure where I could use these but I thought they would be nice too.

New Sofa for the family room:

An ad in today’s Washington Post for Creative Classics caught my eye. I went online to their website and found information on their sleepers here. here is a picture of what’s got my attention.

We need some new sofas in the family room, and since we have people here often, good sleepers would be nice.

Towne Denim Sleeper Sofa from World Market

I saw this in this week (8/10/2008) weekly ad for World Market. I’m not sure if I really need this, but it did catch my eye:

This is the biggest picture I could find of the sleeper in action:

A little too informer for the family room, but would be nice for a bedroom or casual room. It’s $249 in the weekly ad for World Market, but online, it’s $189.

Mia Cubby Desk or Quinton Sliding Desk at World Market

In last week’s World Market weekly ad (8/03/2008), two desks caught my eye, one of which I will probably like to grab for my bedroom by the door to put my stuff on:

Mia Cubby Desk

The Mia Cubby Desk is $99.

The Quinton Sliding Desk

The Quinton sliding desk is $149.

Added: 08/29/2008

World Market had a cool dining set that caught my eye in their 8/24/2008 to 9/7/2008 flyer: the Verona Extension Dining Set.

It’s $999. There are some other options online that are like this which have this bench, but this is the best looking (and unfortunately most expensive) one.

Updated: 9/19/2008

Does this count as “furniture”? The Container Store’s Walnut & Platinum elfa décor Walk-In Closet looks nice.

If only the HTC Advantage X7510 was on Sprint

August 8th, 2008

If this device was on Sprint, it would solve all my problems problem (i.e. – The Mogul!). I found out about this device on an Engadget post today.

Here’s a nice summary about this device from Nate (cut and pasted from this comment here):
yea, somehow I don’t think there’ll be a ton of people here who were willing to put down that much change for such a device.
here’s a little bit of a critique that was on one of the page announcing availability. interesting sounding device.

“saq @ Jun 18th 2008 1:51PM

One
of my very wealthy customers ordered this device on my recommendation
and I got to play with it for a few days before he picked it up and
left for his annual trip around the world. (He loves the device btw).
This
PDA is really awesome, the screen and ergonomics of it are just perfect
for what its intended for. Even a 3.5″ screen is too small for touching
and other things.
The 5″ screen is perfect for Windows Mobile &
Internet functions (Opera Mobile 9.5), the magnetic keyboard is pretty
slick too and works pretty well. The device is thin and everything is
just awesome. It only has a few problems.
1: The device is also a
phone, it is speakerphone only. You better like bluetooth headsets
because that is all you are going to use. My customer has a different
phone he carries around, he was using a Universal before but not as a
phone, just PDA.
2: The thing is just slightly tall/wide to fit into
any pockets (shirt pocket, front pant pockets) so you need a holster to
carry this, which is slightly annoying.

Now, it is expensive, but why would you want it over a laptop?
Battery
life. This is a PDA so your battery life is stellar. I have a 12″
tablet with a 13 hour battery life and it wouldn’t be able to touch the
Advantage.”

My summary is from my comment here:

Shahryar @ Aug 9th 2008 2:27AM

A
little more on the personal preference side, but if this (or something
like this) was out on Sprint, I’d buy it. I use two phones – my main,
personal phone (an N76 w/ T-mo) and my secondary, pda-phone (Mogul w/
Sprint). My set up of T-mo first/Sprint second isn’t changing anytime
soon because of the way my price plans are laid out.

So, w/
Sprint indefinitely set as my secondary phone, since I don’t use the
secondary phone all that often, I wouldn’t mind having to use speaker
or the bluetooth headset for calls. I’d care more about the data-driven
stuff I could do on it and this device seems like it it would do it.

I would also like WiMAX on it since WiMAX is coming soon (or out already?) to Baltimore and DC this year.

Wash Post: Nice Joker Article & Online discussion with Paul Levitz of DC Comics

August 7th, 2008

I thought both of these were worth mentioning:

  1. Sunday, July 13th, 2008’s Washington Post had a nice article on the Joker by Hank Stuever which can be viewed online here:

    The Joker’s Onto Us

What Does It All Mean When Batman’s Enemy Is More Interesting Than the Dark Knight Himself?

The Joker, Through the Years

A look at the many faces of Batman’s nemesis, on film, on television and in the comics.

2) Also, there’s a nice online discussion with Paul Levitz, the publisher & president of DC comics here.

Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes gets A- in Washington Post

August 7th, 2008

Screenshot of the Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes review done by the Washington Post's Sunday Source

The July 27, 2008 Washington Post had a review on Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. It was reviewed by Evan Narcisse and got an A-.

In case you can’t read the screenshot I pasted of the review, Here’s a link to the Washington Post page featuring the review. I couldn’t search for it for the life of me on their site so I had to browse through the Sunday Source print edition to find it. Remind me to e-mail the web editor (Amanda McGrath and complain about that).
