Starting another X-Files rewatch

I watched X-Files when it was airing. Then around 2007 iirc, I did a rewatch via DVD. I was bummed by the movie that came out a couple years later.

Now, with the new mini-series coming out again, I’ve decided to do another rewatch. It’s nice to re-watch this time in HD via Netflix. The only bummer is I won’t get to rewatch any special features since I’m not doing this via DVD.

So far I’m re-impressed (sorry for all the usage of “re”) with how good the pilot was. It introduced many of the concepts which would follow through the series. I’d rank this pilot in my top list of pilots alongside Friday Night Lights and Lost (Lost Part 2 to be specific).

Season 1, Episode 3 “Squeeze” is a great ep which starts the set-up for the “case of the week” shows. When you first watch it, you’re like, “what the hell? where’s the UFO? I thought this show was about UFO-related things.”

I’m a little bummed to see mixed reviews on Season 1 Episode 6 “Shadows” on IMDB. I thought this was one of the best episodes, and in my opinion, was a nice way to get the energy back after a few of the slower episodes.

Season 1, Episode 7 “Ghost in the Machine” is a pretty surreal ep to watch today in 2015. The concepts of the smart home introduced on the show which now 20+ years later are becoming real and practical.
